Ingredients
- 180g butter, chopped
- 330g dark chocolate, chopped
- 3 eggs
- 270g caster sugar
- 120g plain flour
- 150g caster sugar
- 150ml water
- 50ml orange juice
- 2 mandarins
- 100ml cream
- 100g dark chocolate
Method
- Preheat oven to 160° C
- Grease an 18cm square cake tin and line with baking paper
- Melt the butter and chocolate together in a large bowl over just simmering water and stir to combine
- In another large bowl whisk the eggs and sugar until thick and light in colour
- Add the melted chocolate butter mix then fold in the flour
- Pour into the prepared tin and bake for 30-35 minutes until set
- Allow to cool in the tin, remove and cut into portions
- Place the sugar, water and juice into a small saucepan over a low heat, stir to dissolve the sugar and simmer for 5 minutes
- Peel and segment the mandarins and add to the syrup
- Simmer for 5 minutes, remove from the heat and allow to cool
- Place the cream into a small saucepan and bring to the boil
- Add the chopped chocolate and stir to melt the chocolate in the hot cream
- To serve, place a piece of the chocolate slice onto a plate
- Pile the poached mandarins next to the slice

The kids can definitely help with this one, from mixing the slice to peeling and poaching the mandarins.
